Kids’ Fruity Immunity Support Tea (100g)

This 100% natural fruit tea is the perfect choice for health-conscious parents for them to enjoy with their children.

Made from real dried blackcurrants, black rowan and rosehip our Kids’ Immunity Tea is a delicious and healthy choice, containing no added sugar and no artificial flavourings, preservatives, or colourings. Instead, it is packed full of flavonoids, vitamins and minerals and so could help support the immune system.

Each 100g tea box contains 40-45 servings and thanks to the aroma-sealing packaging, the tea stays fresh for months once opened – although we don’t think it will be around long enough to put it to the test!

Why is Kids Immunity Support Tea good for you?

It’s the amazing natural ingredients that go into it that make it so good.

The key ingredients are:

Blackcurrants

Blackcurrants are full of antioxidants, including flavonoids, polyphenols and anthocyanins. Anthocyanins give blackcurrants their characteristic dark colour and fight free radicals in the body, reducing oxidative stress and cell damage. In fact, blackcurrants have one of the highest antioxidant values for fruit, contributing to their reputation as effective in treating or preventing several health issues.

This includes supporting the immune system (blackcurrants are very high in vitamin C too), allowing the body to fight infection and diseases, and being rich in Omega-6 fatty acid, they are thought to help reduce inflammation. The high levels of anthocyanin may help treat glaucoma by increasing the blood flow in the eyes while high rates of manganese are thought to help control blood sugar levels.

The antioxidants in blackcurrants help to fight free radicals in the body. They also help to reduce cell damage that can otherwise lead to certain types of cancer. Anthocyanins in blackcurrants may even help to slow the development of existing cancer cells on the liver.

Blackcurrants also boast high levels of Vitamins A, B1, B2, E and as already mentioned, Vitamin C while a high content of calcium and iron may help in the formation of red blood cells which in turn increases the rate of haemoglobin – helpful to children and women with anaemia.

Black Rowan

This petite crimson berry delivers a robust nutritional profile, boasting high levels of vitamin C as well as Vitamins A, E, K, and the entire spectrum of B vitamins. Moreover, it contains notable quantities of calcium, magnesium, potassium, zinc, iron, and sorbic acid. However, black rowan is particularly esteemed for its distinctive antioxidant composition, featuring tannins, polyphenols, including anthocyanins and flavonoids.

Polyphenols, renowned for their potent antioxidant properties, are abundantly present in black rowan, surpassing the levels found in other berries. These powerful polyphenols are associated with a range of health benefits due to their exceptional antioxidant effects.

It is believed that antioxidants play a crucial role in preventing the detrimental impact of free radicals throughout the body. Free radicals are hazardous by-products of cellular metabolism that can lead to the transformation of healthy cells into cancerous ones or their untimely demise. Studies suggest that the consumption of black rowan berries can substantially elevate antioxidant levels, potentially inhibiting the development of cancerous growths, reducing the risk of premature aging, enhancing skin health, promoting cell regeneration, accelerating healing rates, and supporting eye health, thereby lowering the likelihood of macular degeneration.

In traditional medicine, black rowan berry juice was historically utilized to alleviate respiratory tract inflammation, ease sore throats, and provide relief from asthma and congestion. Some of these effects may be attributed to the antioxidant compounds that also exhibit anti-inflammatory properties, while the presence of vitamin C is known to alleviate asthma symptoms. Black rowan berries have been relied upon for generations as a home remedy for respiratory conditions, and incorporating them into a flavorful tea, such as our Immunity Tea, is certainly worth exploring.

Rose Hips

Rose hips are the round, seed-filled bulbs found underneath rose petals. Unlike rose blossoms, which bloom in the spring and summer months, rose hips generally grow after the petals have bloomed and started falling off, which is usually in early to mid-Autumn. In fact, they’re considered sweeter when picked after the first frost of the season.

Rose hips get their red-orange colour from carotenoid pigments known as lycopene and beta carotene. These pigments are thought to promote skin and eye health.

They’re also rich in disease-fighting antioxidants, such as vitamin C, catechins, quercetin, and ellagic acid. A diet rich in these compounds can help lower inflammation and oxidative stress in your body.

Furthermore, vitamin C plays a key role in collagen synthesis and supporting the immune system.

Peppermint

Peppermint (Mentha × piperita) is an aromatic herb in the mint family. Native to Europe and Asia, it has been used for thousands of years for its pleasant, minty taste and health benefits.

Peppermint leaves contain several essential oils including menthol, menthone and limonene and it is the menthol that gives peppermint its cooling properties and recognizably minty scent. In addition to its pleasant smell, peppermint has antibacterial properties that help kill the germs that cause dental plaque and so may improve your breath.

Peppermint appears to act as a muscle relaxant and pain reliever, so may diminish certain types of headaches. This apparent ability could be attributed to the menthol too which potentially increases blood flow, provides a cooling sensation and eases pain. But peppermint oil has also been shown to relax muscles in your digestive system and improve various digestive symptoms. Therefore, peppermint tea may provide similar benefits.

Peppermint has antibacterial, antiviral and anti-inflammatory properties. Because of this, it is possible that peppermint tea may fight clogged sinuses due to infections, the common cold and allergies.

Peppermint tea may also improve energy levels and reduce daytime fatigue. While there are no studies on peppermint tea specifically, research demonstrates that natural compounds in peppermint may have beneficial effects on energy.

Finally, because peppermint acts as a muscle relaxant, it may also relieve period pain.

Hibiscus

Hibiscus tea is made from a mixture of dried hibiscus flowers, leaves, and dark red calyces (the cup-shaped centres of the flowers). After the flower finishes blooming, the petals fall off and the calyces turn into pods. These hold the plant’s seeds. Calyces are often the main ingredients in herbal drinks containing hibiscus.

Hibiscus has been used by different cultures as a remedy for several conditions: the Egyptians used hibiscus tea to lower body temperature, treat heart and nerve diseases, and as a diuretic to increase urine production. In Africa, tea was used to treat constipation, cancer, liver disease, and cold symptoms. Pulp made from the leaves was applied to the skin to heal wounds.

Today we know Hibiscus tea is rich in powerful antioxidants and may therefore help prevent damage and disease caused by the build-up of free radicals which harm your cells and can lead to serious illness such as cancers, so perhaps our ancestors were right.

It is commonly thought that hibiscus tea can also help lower blood pressure; several studies have found that hibiscus tea may lower both systolic and diastolic blood pressure, potentially lowering the risk of heart disease.

In addition, there is some evidence that hibiscus tea might be able to support a healthy liver function, helping it to work effectively and also promote weight loss, while Hibiscus is high in polyphenols, which are compounds that have been shown to possess powerful anti-cancer properties.

Elderflower

Elderflower is naturally sweet and adds just the right subtle floral flavour to appeal to children and adults.

Fennel

Fennel adds a taste a little like liquorice, a relaxing scent and slightly bitter aftertaste.

It is thought that fennel helps muscles to relax and so aids sleep if drunk before bed – and a good night’s sleep helps keep the body fit and healthy and supports the immune system. Fennel’s apparent ability to relax muscles includes the stomach muscles which also helps with constipation, helping to rid the body of toxins.

Sticking with stomachs, if yours is upset, or you have a case of flatulence or diarrhoea, fennel tea can help as it has long been recognised as an aid to digestion.

Finally, fennel tea contains antioxidants which appear to attach to molecules in the blood that are fighting oxidative damage. This lessens the load on the kidney and liver, helps new cell production, and even reduces the signs of ageing. Another reason why our Kids’ Immunity Tea might be enjoyed by parents too!

Preparation:

Pour 250 ml of hot water over 1-2 teaspoon of our Kids’ Immunity Support Tea. Leave to brew for 10 minutes, strain and your tea is ready. Flavour to your liking and enjoy.

One jar contains 40-45 cups of tea.
